Susan Forward as Therapist ~
"I consider Susan Forward to be
among the foremost therapists of our age..."
~John Bradshaw, author of Homecoming
Beginnings:
Susan Forward's meteoric career in
psychology began when she volunteered at
UCLA's prestigious Neuropsychiatric
Institute. Senior administrators at the
Institute, however, almost immediately
recognized her innate ability to relate
to, empathize and work effectively with
patients and offered her a
paraprofessional position on staff.
Realizing what a profound difference she
could make in people's lives, Susan
dedicated herself to the study of human
behavior and entered graduate school at
the University of Southern California. It
was there that she earned her master's
degree in Psychiatric Social Work. She
then went on to earn her license as a Clinical Social
Worker and later her Ph.D. in Psychology.
Breaking
Ground: In
addition to her private practice, Susan
has served as a therapist, consultant or
instructor for almost every major
Southern California psychiatric and
medical facility. In 1978, she published
her first book, Betrayal
of Innocence.
This ground-breaking work quickly
established her as one of the nation's
preeminent experts in the field of child
abuse. As a result, Susan is a highly
sought after expert witness in numerous
criminal and civil trials throughout
across the country.
Soaring:
Given the impact of her first book and a
burgeoning interest in all forms of human
relationships, Susan quickly concluded
that she could affect, for the better,
the lives of far more people through her
writing than she could ever help with her
practice alone. However, she could never
have anticipated the world-wide impact
her second book, Men
Who Hate Women and the Women Who Love
Them,
would have on the lives of countless
women and men struggling with
dysfunctional relationships. The book
became a publishing phenomenon, reigning
at the top of nearly every major best
seller list for more than 44 weeks and
was made the subject of an NBC Television
special in 1994. Never to be accused of
being a one-hit-wonder, Susan's next
book, Toxic
Parents,
returned her to the number one spot on
the New York Times Bestseller List. She
has since published Obsessive
Love, Money
Demons, Emotional
Blackmail
and When
Your Lover is a Liar
all of which have only contributed to her
standing as one of the leading
relationship therapists in the country.
Private
Practice:
Susan's powerful, cutting-edge work as a
therapist is so intrinsic to her writing
that, despite her international
publishing and media success and
popularity on the lecture circuit, she
still maintains a small but active
private therapy practice. For additional
